The Lagos State Government has introduced a “no power, no pay” policy as part of fresh efforts to improve electricity supply across key public facilities.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu disclosed this on Sunday while announcing the signing of three power purchase agreements at Lagos House, Marina.

According to the governor, the agreements are aimed at strengthening existing power capacity and addressing persistent gaps in electricity delivery across the state.

Under the new arrangements, specific power firms have been assigned to designated areas and infrastructure.

Fenchurch Power will supply electricity to major water facilities in Adiyan and Iju, while Mainland Power will continue serving Ikeja, Oshodi, and Anthony, with plans to expand coverage.

Viathan will maintain power supply to key facilities on Lagos Island and work on better integration with the distribution network.

Sanwo-Olu explained that the agreements have been revised to reflect current realities in the power sector, with a payment model that prioritises accountability and efficiency.

He emphasised that the state will no longer pay for undelivered electricity, noting that payments will now be tied strictly to actual, metered supply.

The governor added that the initiative is expected to enhance power reliability for public infrastructure, reduce wasteful spending, and create a clearer pathway for expanding electricity capacity in the coming years.
