The final group of 130 schoolchildren and staff members abducted from St. Mary’s Private Catholic School in Papiri have been released, officials confirmed Sunday, marking the end of a month-long hostage crisis in Niger State.

The development was confirmed on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, via his official X handle.

He stated that with the latest release, no victim from the school remains in captivity.

The mass abduction occurred in the early hours of Nov. 21, when armed bandits on motorcycles stormed the boarding school in the Agwara Local Government Area.

About 50 students initially escaped during the confusion that followed the raid.

Their escape occurred as security forces began responding to the attack, creating an opportunity for some of the victims to flee.

A first batch of 100 students was released on December 8 after intense joint security operations.
