Staff unions at the Lagos State University (LASU), operating under the Joint Action Committee, have launched an indefinite strike, effective Thursday, July 31.

The industrial action is in response to ongoing unresolved issues with the university's management.

The Joint Action Committee is demanding the implementation of a 25%-35% salary increase for all staff, harmonisation of salary disparities between LASU staff and those in other state-owned tertiary institutions, and the implementation of the new National Minimum Wage

The strike involves all staff members from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT).

The unions have directed their members at the main campus and its affiliates, including the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) and the Epe campus, to withdraw their services immediately.

The strike commenced just as students were preparing to begin their second-semester examinations for the 2024/2025 academic session on Monday.

The unions have stated that the strike will continue indefinitely until the university's management meets their demands.
