North West University Kano lecturers resume classes today as exams continue following a brief suspension caused by protests over unmet promises by the Federal and Kano State governments.

The one-day protest, led by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), disrupted first-semester examinations on Tuesday as lecturers demanded the payment of earned academic allowances and other pending entitlements.

Speaking to Victor Christopher, the ASUU branch chairman, Comrade Mansur Sa’id, said the temporary suspension of academic activities was a warning to the government.

“Our action was to remind the authorities of their promises. We cannot continue to work without our rights being addressed,” he stated.

Comrade Sa’id explained that while classes and exams have resumed, the union’s demands remain unresolved.

He warned that if the government fails to act before the next scheduled dialogue on September 3, the “union’s national body would decide the next line of action.”
