Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has expressed his administration’s readiness to host a Super Eagles match at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.

Speaking on Saturday at the formal opening of the 81st Annual General Assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in Ibadan, Makinde pledged to provide the required infrastructure and support to make the state a destination for the national team.

“We are ready in Oyo State to host the Super Eagles. Let us assess the facilities at the Lekan Salami Stadium and see what needs to be improved. I give you my word, we will invest the needed resources,” he said.

Makinde also proposed a single-term tenure for sports administrators in Nigeria, noting that it would enhance accountability, stability, and performance in sports governance.

NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, in his remarks, praised Makinde’s commitment to sports development and assured that a Super Eagles match would be played in Oyo State before the end of the current administration in 2027.

Former NFF President Amaju Pinnick, who also delivered a goodwill message, urged stakeholders to rally behind the federation’s leadership.

The event attracted notable football figures, including FIFA observers Hamed Haraz and Lyrique Dupiesis, Nadim Magdy, WAFU Executive Director Philippe Tchere, and several Nigerian football stakeholders.
