The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has directed that all mobile phones and electronic devices must be switched off during aircraft take-off and landing, ending the use of the “flight mode” option in Nigeria.

The Director-General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Najomo announced the new directive after an emergency meeting of the National Civil Aviation Security Committee (NSASC) and a stakeholders’ forum held in Abuja on Tuesday.

He explained that the rule takes immediate effect, and all Nigerian air operators are required to amend their operating manuals to reflect the requirement.

According to Najomo, the decision aims to eliminate confusion among passengers, strengthen safety measures, and ensure greater synergy between airlines, aviation regulators, security agencies, and other stakeholders.

He added that compliance with crew instructions is now mandatory, and that unruly behaviour by passengers will no longer be tolerated.
