Kanu Agabi, lead counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, and other Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) have withdrawn their representation in the ongoing terrorism trial before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The former Attorney-General of the Federation and the other SANs on Thursday applied their withdrawal, informing the court that the defendant had decided to take back the case from them.

Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is facing trial on a seven-count charge bordering on terrorism, filed against him by the Federal Government.

Kanu, who returned to the Federal High Court Abuja on Thursday to open his defence in the suit confirmed the latest development to the court.

He further declined the offer to be assign another lawyer when asked by the presiding judge, Justice James Omotosho, though stating there was a possibility of changing the current stand.

In his opening argument, Kanu argued that the court was without the authority to try him.

He also listed to the court as part of his witnesses, current and past ministers and state governors including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, and former Minister of Defence, Theophilus Danjuma (rtd).

Others include: Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and former Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd).

Recall that the court had on October 16, granted the defendant six days, beginning October 23, to open and close his defence in light of the earlier order for an expedited hearing in this case.
