The National Youth Service Corps has dismissed as false a viral report claiming the scheme operates a “ransom clause” putting corps members at risk of bandit attacks.

Caroline Embu, NYSC’s Director of Information and Public Relations, described the report as “entirely fictitious” and urged the public to disregard it.

The controversy arose after reports linked the scheme to the recent case of Musa Abba, who completed service in 2023. NYSC clarified he is not a serving corps member and expressed sympathy to him and his family.

Embu emphasized that corps members in high-risk areas are provided protection, including military escorts, and that orientation camps in states like Kebbi, Kaduna, Kwara, Borno, Gombe, and Plateau have been relocated to safer locations.

The NYSC reiterated its commitment to corps welfare, noting that all members are covered under life insurance and the National Health Insurance Scheme.

The scheme warned against misinformation and urged Nigerians to rely on verified sources regarding corps members’ safety.
