One Dead, Two Rescued in Lagos Building Collapse

One person has died and two others have been rescued after a two storey building being manually demolished collapsed in Aboru, Lagos State.

The incident happened around 12:56 a.m. on Thursday at 42 Governors Road, Aboru, in Alimosho Local Government Area.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said emergency responders were alerted shortly after the building collapsed.

He said preliminary findings showed that the structure came down during manual demolition, trapping workers under the rubble.

Two adult men were rescued alive and given first aid by the Lagos State Ambulance Service.

They were later taken to a nearby health facility for further treatment.

Another adult man was found dead beneath the debris.

LASEMA said the rescue operation involved its Alpha Eagle Response Team, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and LASAMBUS.

The area was also cordoned off to protect residents and give emergency workers space to carry out the operation.

Oke-Osanyintolu urged residents and developers to comply with building regulations and use certified professionals for demolition and construction work.

He also asked residents to report unsafe building activities through the 767 or 112 toll free emergency numbers.
