The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it will go to court to recover the seats of some members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who recently announced they are leaving the party.
In a press release issued on Saturday, the PDP reacted to news that these lawmakers have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, called the move a "re-defection," noting that these same members had announced leaving the party before, only to change their minds later.
The PDP criticized the lawmakers sharply, accusing them of following the orders of a "paymaster."
The statement described the assembly members as "political puppets" and a "clog in the wheels of democratic progress."
"They will go down in history as enemies of democracy and those who made mockery of the legislature," Ememobong stated.

The party claims the lawmakers’ actions show they were already working with the opposition, mockingly describing the move as a "defection from APC to APC."
Consequently, the PDP announced it will take immediate legal steps.
The party plans to use the Nigerian Constitution to "recover the mandate" given to the party during the election. This means they want the courts to declare the seats vacant so the PDP can reclaim them.
The party urged all its members in Rivers State to remain faithful and resolute as they work to rebuild the party with fairness and unity.
