The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that its presidential ticket for the 2027 general elections has been zoned to the southern part of the country.

This decision was made during the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) convention held on Monday in Abuja.

The party also resolved that the position of the national chairman would remain in the northern part of the country.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, confirmed the resolutions in a communiqué after the meeting. He stated that the decisions were based on the recommendations of a zoning committee led by Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State.

"Having retained the position of the national chairman in the north, the presidential candidate of the party for the 2027 general elections is hereby zoned to the southern part," Ologunagba said, quoting from the communiqué.

In another key resolution, the NEC officially confirmed Umar Damagum as the substantive national chairman of the party.

According to the communiqué, this appointment takes effect immediately and will last until the party holds its elective national convention in Ibadan from November 15 to November 16.

The NEC also condemned the intimidation and violence reported during recent by-elections in various parts of the country, citing instances in Kaduna, Taraba, and Zamfara. The party reaffirmed its commitment to democracy and its efforts to reposition itself to regain power in 2027.
