The Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPCL) Limited, Mele Kyar Mele Kyari, has announced that the Port Harcourt refinery is scheduled to commence production "in the next two weeks."

Kyari made this known during a meeting with the senate ad hoc committee tasked with investigating the Turn Around Maintenance (TAM) projects involving Nigerian refineries.

“In the next two weeks, production will start. We did mechanical completion of Port Harcourt, that was what we said in Dec 2023,” Kyari said.

“That means we are done with our rehabilitation work, now you are to test if this completion is okay,” he added.

The NNPCL boss also revealed that mechanical works at the Warri refinery have reached completion, with the facility presently undergoing stringent regulatory compliance procedures.

However, Kyari lamented that the Kaduna refinery would not be completed until December.

Speaking on the operational activity, Kyari noted that all crude lines remain operational, with over 450,000 barrels having been dispatched to the Port Harcourt refinery.

Kyari assured that the government is actively addressing all security issues.

The committee is scheduled to meet again with Kyari on March 19 to deliberate on matters pertaining to crude oil theft.

It is important to note that the mechanical phase of the turnaround maintenance at the Port Harcourt refinery was successfully concluded on December 21, 2023.
