The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that 26 people were injured following a train collision along the Abuja–Kaduna rail corridor on Monday.

The incident occurred near Asham Station when part of a moving train reportedly collided with a passenger coach due to what officials described as a possible coupling failure.

According to the corporation, no fatalities were recorded, and no coaches derailed in the incident.

The train was carrying over 400 passengers, alongside crew members and security personnel, at the time of the collision.

Those injured, including passengers, staff, and security operatives, sustained varying degrees of injuries and were promptly attended to.

Despite the disruption, the train continued its journey after the affected components were detached, arriving in Abuja approximately 38 minutes behind schedule.

The NRC said normal rail services have since resumed, while an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the mechanical fault.

The Abuja–Kaduna rail line remains one of Nigeria’s busiest passenger routes, frequently used by commuters traveling between the Federal Capital Territory and Kaduna State.
