The Super Eagles of Nigeria have arrived in Bissau ahead of Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea-Bissau, as both teams look to strengthen their position in Group L.
The Nigerian delegation departed Uyo on Sunday evening after the team held a final training session at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
Super Eagles Media Officer, Promise Efoghe, said the team trained on Sunday morning before departing the Victor Attah International Airport at about 5 p.m. on a chartered ValueJet flight.
The delegation arrived at the Osvaldo Vieira International Airport in Bissau at about 8:40 p.m. and will continue preparations for Tuesday’s encounter.
Guinea-Bissau also began their qualifying campaign with a victory, defeating Tanzania 2-0 to move ahead of Nigeria on goal difference.
The result has increased the importance of Tuesday’s meeting, with both sides aiming to establish an early advantage in the group.
Nigeria will face the Djurtus at the Estádio Nacional 24 de Setembro in Bissau. Guinea-Bissau are currently ranked 132nd in the world and 38th in Africa.
The Super Eagles have faced Guinea-Bissau four times previously, with Nigeria winning three of those meetings and losing once.
The only defeat came during the 2023 AFCON qualifiers, when Guinea-Bissau secured a 1-0 victory over Nigeria at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
The upcoming fixture will therefore give Nigeria an opportunity to maintain its winning start and avoid dropping points against a side that has already recorded three points from its opening match.
Only the winner of Group L will secure an automatic qualification ticket for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, while co-hosts Tanzania already have a guaranteed place at the tournament.
