A serious accident involving a tanker and a heavy-duty truck has caused major traffic delays on the Third Mainland Bridge this morning.

The crash occurred overnight near the Unilag waterfront on the lanes heading toward Lagos Island.

As a result of the collision, traffic is moving very slowly for drivers coming from the Tollgate and heading towards Iyana Oworo.

Many commuters woke up to find significant disruptions on their way to work.

Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Nigeria Police Force were at the scene immediately.

They worked to manage the traffic flow and ensure the safety of all road users. Orange safety cones have been placed on the road to warn drivers and prevent any further accidents.

"Our personnel are on the ground, and efforts are underway to evacuate the affected vehicles," a traffic official stated. "We are working hard to restore normal traffic flow as quickly as possible."

Motorists are advised to drive carefully when approaching the accident area and to expect delays. Authorities have promised to provide more updates as they work to clear the road.

Drivers planning to use the bridge should consider leaving home earlier or using alternative routes if possible.
