The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says it will complete the 330KV Double Circuit QUAD Conductor Mando–Rimin Zakara Transmission Line Project by November 2027 as part of efforts to strengthen the national grid and improve electricity supply in northern Nigeria.

The Assistant General Manager of Transmission for the Kano Region, Engr. Ibrahim Aliyu, disclosed this during the second phase of compensation for over 2,000 Project Affected Persons (PAPs) impacted by the transmission line project.

Engr. Aliyu said the project is expected to improve power supply and help revive industries that have either shut down or reduced operations due to inadequate electricity.

“The major equipment for the project, including towers and conductors, is already on the ground,” he said.

"This transmission line will not only strengthen the national grid but also support the revival of industries affected by poor electricity supply."

According to him, about 5,000 persons affected by the project have so far been compensated.

He, however, warned beneficiaries against farming or erecting structures within the transmission corridor after receiving compensation, stressing that such activities could endanger lives and affect the project.

“We urge affected persons who have received compensation to stay away from the designated areas. Farming and building structures under transmission lines have serious implications,” he added.

Zaria Substation to be Energized This Year

Also speaking during the compensation exercise was the Project Manager, Engr. Omobola Odusoga Sobo said the substation located in Zaria would be energised before the end of the year.

Engr. Sobo commended district heads and community leaders for supporting sensitisation efforts and ensuring cooperation from residents in affected communities.

She noted that community engagement had played a key role in the smooth implementation of the project and compensation process.

Community Leaders Back Project

The District Head of Kabo Local Government Area, Bashir Ado Bayero, said that although achieving total satisfaction among affected persons may not always be possible, TCN had demonstrated transparency throughout the process.

“TCN has remained transparent and collaborative by carrying community leaders and members along at every stage of the project,” he said.

Ado Bayero, who is also the Dan Isan Kano, expressed optimism that the project would improve electricity supply and stimulate socio-economic development across affected communities.

He also warned beneficiaries against returning to the affected areas to erect structures, saying traditional authorities would take strict action against violators.

Beneficiaries Commend Compensation Process

Some beneficiaries who received compensation commended TCN for what they described as a transparent process.

One of the beneficiaries, Lawan Usman Gabasawa, said he received his cheque after completing all necessary documentation.

“I am satisfied with the process because everything was done openly after the required paperwork,” he said.

Another beneficiary, Shu’aibu Barde Masanawa, from Kabo Local Government Area, assured authorities that he would not interfere with the section mapped out for the project.

The Mando–Rimin Zakara transmission line project is expected to play a major role in improving power evacuation and electricity distribution in Kano and neighbouring states, where businesses and manufacturers have long complained about poor and unstable power supply.
