Hajiya Hadiza Jega, wife of former Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman (INEC) Attahiru Jega, has died, drawing condolences from President Bola Tinubu and other top officials.

She died on Saturday and was buried the same day according to Islamic rites after funeral prayers at the National Mosque in Abuja.

President Tinubu, in a message conveyed through Vice President Kashim Shettima, expressed deep sorrow over the loss.

He described the late Hadiza as “a woman of uncommon grace and strength” who stood firmly by her husband throughout his years in public service.

“Dear Professor Jega, it is with a heavy heart that I receive the news,” the president said, adding that he prayed for God to grant her eternal rest and comfort the family.

Northern state governors and other political leaders also sent messages of sympathy, praising her quiet contributions to education and community development.

Jega, a respected academic and former INEC chairman, led Nigeria’s electoral body from 2010 to 2015.

He currently serves as special adviser to the president on livestock development.

The loss has drawn attention to the personal side of public service, as many described Hadiza Jega as a strong support system behind her husband’s national role.
