President Bola Tinubu will leave Abuja on Wednesday for a two-nation trip to South Africa and Angola, where he will participate in high-level global and regional summits, the presidency said in a statement Tuesday.

Tinubu will first travel to Johannesburg to attend the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit scheduled for Nov. 22–23 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre. He is attending at the invitation of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who currently chairs the G20. Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva had also invited Tinubu to last year’s summit in Rio de Janeiro.

This year’s G20 gathering, themed “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability,” will feature three plenary sessions focused on inclusive and sustainable growth, trade and development financing, disaster risk reduction, climate change, energy transitions, food systems, critical minerals, decent work, and artificial intelligence.

The statement said Tinubu will hold several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit to advance Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives and the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

After the G20 meetings, Tinubu will proceed to Luanda for the 7th African Union–European Union Summit set for Nov. 24–25. The AU-EU gathering will bring together heads of state, young leaders, innovators and civil society groups to address shared challenges, including climate change, digital economy expansion, infrastructure, inclusivity in development, manufacturing and agribusiness.

Tinubu will travel with senior government officials, including Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, Finance Minister Wale Edun, Solid Minerals Minister Dele Alake, Trade and Investment Minister Jumoke Oduwole, and National Intelligence Agency Director General Mohammed Mohammed.

He is expected to return to Nigeria at the end of both meetings, the statement said.
