The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has called for the immediate and unconditional reinstatement of Nigerian workers sacked by Dangote Petroleum Refinery last week.

TUC Secretary General, Nuhu Toro, issued the demand in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, describing the refinery’s decision as “anti-worker, unconstitutional, and a violation of Nigeria’s international obligations.”

He stressed that dismissing workers for exercising their constitutional right to freedom of association contravenes Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution and ILO conventions.

Toro said the congress stood in full solidarity with PENGASSAN and the affected workers, warning that its affiliates had been placed on red alert pending further directives.

He also demanded a public apology from the Dangote management and assurances against future victimisation.

The labour leader urged the Ministry of Labour, the International Labour Organization (ILO), and other stakeholders to investigate the refinery’s labour practices.

He added that the TUC would not hesitate to mobilise for a nationwide industrial action if its demands were ignored.
