The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has stated that the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition, is headed for continued losses unless it decisively resolves its persistent internal crises.

Wike made the remarks during his monthly media parley with journalists in Abuja on Friday.

The Minister described the ongoing wave of defections from the party as "very embarrassing."

He asserted that he had long foreseen the crisis plaguing the PDP, claiming that "everything he had predicted about the PDP has now come to pass."

Wike specifically highlighted the particularly "embarrassing" nature of a governor who had chaired the party's convention committee now defecting, suggesting that key internal players were simply "playing games" rather than working toward party unity and success.

Speaking on the party's proposed National Convention billed to hold on November 15th, Wike maintained that the PDP leadership has so far failed to observe crucial prerequisite processes.

He noted that the party has not held the necessary state congresses and carried out other due processes that must be observed before a valid National Convention can be held.
