Yusuf Buhari, the only son of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has formally declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a letter dated April 3, 2026, Yusuf expressed his desire to represent the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The letter outlined his motivation to enter the race following what he described as wide consultations.

“I am extremely delighted to inform you of my intention to contest, as my contribution to ensuring good and qualitative leadership,” he wrote, while appealing for support to drive infrastructural and human development across the constituency.

Yusuf’s declaration comes shortly after APC stakeholders in Sandamu Local Government Area endorsed him as their preferred candidate for the federal constituency.

The endorsement was made during a high-level meeting involving elected officials and political appointees from the area.

Speaking at the meeting, the council chairman, Usman Na-Lado, described the decision as a collective resolution, citing Yusuf’s perceived capacity and growing acceptance within party ranks.

Sources within the party further indicated that Yusuf Buhari’s endorsement may have the backing of Governor Radda, describing him as the governor’s “anointed candidate.”
