The Association of Zamfara State Retired Permanent Secretaries has honoured Governor Dauda Lawal in recognition of what it described as the “impactful projects” and reforms carried out by his administration since taking office in 2023.

The governor received the award on Friday at the Government House Conference Hall in Gusau, where members of the association commended the government’s achievements across key sectors of the state.

Speaking at the event, Governor Lawal thanked the retired officials for the honour, describing it as particularly meaningful coming from senior citizens who had served the state in various capacities.

“There is no greater honour than an award from those who have served the state diligently,” Lawal said. “People are following what this government is doing. We are transparent and accountable, and we came into office with a clear agenda.”

The governor said his administration’s six-point manifesto prioritises security, investment, and infrastructure development, adding that projects are ongoing across all local government areas of the state.

“There is no local government in Zamfara where we have not invested over N20 billion in projects. Visit the councils and see the work for yourselves,” he said.

Lawal also pointed to improvements in security and revenue generation, stating that the state’s internally generated revenue had increased from about N80 million to over N5 billion.

He added that the state’s international airport project is expected to be completed in the coming months, as part of efforts to attract investors.

Earlier, the chairman of the Zamfara State Retired Permanent Secretaries Association, Muhammad Bello Umar, mni, said the award was in recognition of the administration’s performance across several sectors.

He said the government had distinguished itself in workers’ welfare, education, health and infrastructure development, adding that the association had also benefited directly from the administration’s policies.

“At our Annual General Meeting, when the governor was barely six months in office, we requested the payment of outstanding gratuities, and this government obliged.

All pending payments, amounting to over N13 billion, were settled,” Umar said.

He described the governor’s administration as one that had exceeded expectations and said its record would be remembered positively in the history of the state.

The event was attended by senior government officials and members of the association, who also praised the administration for its support to retired civil servants, including assistance during medical emergencies.
