The Zamfara State Government says it has treated 6,842 surgical and medical cases under its free modified medical outreach programme conducted across the state since August 2023.

According to a statement issued Wednesday by the spokesperson to Gov. Dauda Lawal, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the outreach programme has been carried out at Yariman Bakura Special Hospital, General Hospital Gusau, Eye Centre Gusau and Farida Hospital.

Idris said phases 015, 016 and 017 of the outreach were conducted from May 1 to May 17, 2026.

He said the programme provided free treatment for cataracts, groin swellings including hernias and hydroceles, vesicovaginal fistula repairs and other medical conditions, alongside health education for residents.

“The Zamfara State Government’s Special Modified Medical Outreach is part of Governor Dauda Lawal’s resolve to address identified serious medical cases to enhance the health and well-being of the people of Zamfara,” the statement said.

The government said the initiative also uses tele-screening to provide specialist care to patients in rural and semi-urban communities across the state’s 14 local government areas.

According to the statement, the 17 phases completed so far covered 5,282 surgical cases and 1,200 medical cases, including seropositive conditions, cataract extraction procedures, vesicovaginal fistula repairs and other specialised surgeries.

The state government said it would continue providing free medical assistance for vulnerable residents requiring specialised treatment.
