The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has urged commission staff to prepare diligently to deliver free, fair, and credible elections in 2027, saying it is the only way to restore public trust in the agency.

Amupitan made the remarks Friday while addressing staff at the INEC secretariat in Uyo after inspecting Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercises across local government areas. He emphasized that INEC is committed to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and collaborating with the National Population Commission and other agencies to ensure all eligible Nigerians participate in the registration process.

He called on staff to conduct all electoral activities with honesty and courtesy, noting that their work now will determine the credibility of the 2027 elections. Amupitan also announced plans for a voters’ revalidation exercise to sanitize the register, removing deceased or ineligible names, and encouraged staff to actively create awareness about voter registration beyond the Voter Education and Publicity unit.

State Resident Electoral Commissioner Barrister Obo Effanga welcomed the chairman’s visit and pledged to ensure the commission fulfills its mandate. During his tour of CVR centres in Ikot Ekpene and Uyo, Amupitan noted network and login issues raised by staff and promised swift resolution, praising the high turnout of young voters and calling for continued voter education across the state.
