The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) announced on Sunday that fifty of the over 300 children abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Nigeria have successfully escaped their captors.

The children fled captivity between Friday and Saturday and have now reunited with their families, CAN confirmed in a statement.

“We have received some good news as fifty pupils escaped and have reunited with their parents,” the group said, offering a glimmer of hope amid the ongoing rescue efforts.

The mass kidnapping occurred in Papiri, Niger State, where armed men abducted more than 300 students and staff, sparking nationwide outrage and urgent calls for their safe return.

Authorities continue operations to secure the release of the remaining hostages.
