The African Democratic Congress in Rivers State says it is united and prepared to conduct its ward and local government congresses, amid heightened political activity at the party’s secretariat.

Party executives from across the state gathered for final preparations ahead of the exercise scheduled for April 9, which is expected to take place in more than 6,000 units.

Speaking to journalists, the state chairman, Leader Sampson, dismissed reports of internal divisions, insisting there are no factions within the party in Rivers State.

“We reiterate that there is no division within the party structure in Rivers State,” he said, adding that members and stakeholders are working together to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence.

He said the decision to proceed with the congresses followed directives from the national leadership under David Mark and that all legal requirements had been met, including notifying the Independent National Electoral Commission within the stipulated timeframe.

The party also addressed concerns over internal disputes at the national level, maintaining that ongoing litigation does not affect the legitimacy of the state congresses.

However, the ADC criticised its exclusion from a recent by-election, accusing the electoral body of actions that could encourage one-party dominance. Party leaders said they are protesting at INEC headquarters over the development.

Local government leaders expressed confidence in the process, saying they are prepared to deliver credible leadership at the grassroots level.

The ward and local government congresses are scheduled for April 9, while the state congress is set for April 11.
