A Federal High Court in Akwa Ibom has sentenced the governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Bassey Albert, to 42 years in prison for fraud.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned Albert in 2019 on a six-count charge of allegedly taking six vehicles valued at N204 million when he was a finance commissioner.

On Thursday, the trial judge, Agatha Okeke, found the governorship candidate guilty of the offenses.

The serving senator, representing Akwa Ibom North East, was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before defecting to the YPP in July.
