Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has thrown his weight behind the three day national mourning declared by the Christian Association of Nigeria over rising insecurity in the country.

In a post on X, Atiku said the concerns raised by church leaders reflect the reality many Nigerians are facing.

He said the recommendations from the church, including better intelligence gathering, stronger coordination among security agencies, improved operations, and greater accountability, are necessary to tackle terrorism, banditry, and violent crime.

Atiku praised Christian leaders under the leadership of Daniel Okoh for what he described as a wake up call to political leaders.

He also called for interfaith solidarity, urging Muslim groups to join efforts aimed at demanding stronger action on security.

According to him, insecurity affects all Nigerians regardless of religion or ethnicity.

The former vice president accused the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu of failing to respond effectively to the crisis and urged the president to take the concerns raised by CAN seriously.

Atiku said Nigerians want to see concrete action rather than promises in addressing the country's security challenges.
