Australian police say they are investigating overseas travel linked to the deadly attack at Bondi Beach, which left 15 people dead and has shocked the nation.

Authorities confirm that the two gunmen — 50-year-old Sajid Akram and his 24-year-old son, Naveed — travelled to the Philippines about a month before the shooting.

Local media reports suggest the pair may have gone there to receive what is being described as military-style training.

Philippine police say they are now working with Australian authorities to determine the purpose of that trip and whether it had any connection to the attack.

Police also say a vehicle used by the suspects contained two homemade Islamic State flags and improvised explosive devices, or IEDs.

The discovery comes after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the attack appeared to have been motivated by Islamic State ideology, though investigations are continuing.

The victims were targeted while attending a Hanukkah event, in what authorities describe as a deliberate attack on the Jewish community.

Among those killed are a 10-year-old girl, a British-born rabbi, a retired police officer, and a Holocaust survivor.

Police say efforts are ongoing to formally identify all victims and notify families.

Meanwhile, New South Wales Health says three people remain in critical condition in hospital, while five others are listed as critical but stable.

Security has been heightened across Sydney, particularly around places of worship and major public venues, as investigations continue into the deadliest attack in Australia in recent years.
