National Security Council Meeting/July 2022

President Muhammadu Buhari will be meeting with security chiefs in Abuja on Monday to “review and strengthen (the) security network” in Nigeria, according to the presidency.

A press release signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media & Publicity, Garba Shehu stated that the president will receive briefs from the security chiefs and “interject on areas that need more attention.”

As a result, the president’s planned inauguration of a new technology and innovation hub has been postponed.

The emergency security meeting is taking place a week after the United States Embassy in Nigeria issued an alert warning of an “elevated risk” of terror attacks in Abuja.

On Thursday, 27 October, the embassy issued a new travel advisory ordering the departure of the family members of its government employees resident in Abuja.

It said this was due to "crime, terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, and maritime crime.”
