Chelsea Football Club has confirmed that it has parted company with head coach Enzo Maresca, bringing his time at Stamford Bridge to an end.

In a statement, the club said Maresca led Chelsea to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup, describing the trophies as an important part of the club’s recent history. Chelsea thanked the Italian coach for his contributions and wished him well for the future.

‎Maresca was appointed Chelsea manager in June 2024, following a promotion-winning spell with Leicester City. His tenure at the club also saw Chelsea secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League, marking a return to Europe’s top competition.

‎Despite those achievements, Chelsea’s Premier League form became inconsistent in recent months, with the team dropping points from winning positions and struggling to maintain momentum domestically.

‎The club said that with key objectives still to play for across four competitions, including qualification for Champions League football, both parties believed a change in leadership would give the team the best chance of getting the season back on track.

‎Sources close to the club indicate that Maresca’s exit followed a breakdown in relations with the club’s ownership and senior management, with disagreements reportedly centred on football strategy, squad management and decision-making authority.

‎Chelsea are expected to announce interim arrangements and begin the process of appointing a new head coach in the coming days.
