Chelsea bounced back from their opening-day draw in emphatic fashion, dismantling West Ham United with a dominant 5-1 victory on Friday night at the London Stadium.

The result heaps pressure on West Ham's manager Graham Potter, the former Chelsea boss, as his team has now conceded eight goals in their first two games of the season.

The match began with a moment of brilliance from West Ham's Lucas Paquetá, who scored with a stunning long-range strike in the sixth minute.

However, the lead was short-lived as Chelsea's offense, despite the late withdrawal of star Cole Palmer due to injury, quickly took control.

Goals from five different Chelsea players secured the victory:

  • João Pedro equalized with a header in the 15th minute.

  • Pedro Neto gave Chelsea the lead with a close-range finish just eight minutes later.

  • Enzo Fernández extended the lead to 3-1 before halftime.

  • Moisés Caicedo and Trevoh Chalobah both capitalized on defensive errors from West Ham's new goalkeeper, Mads Hermansen, to score in the second half.

The decisive win marked Chelsea's first of the season and propelled them to the top of the Premier League table.

For West Ham, the match was a dismal affair that saw many home supporters leave the stadium early, with the team now sitting at the bottom of the league.
