A Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday refused to stop Senator Ireti Kingibe from participating in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), rejecting an urgent bid to bar her from the party’s activities.

Justice Peter Lifu declined an ex parte application filed by Wuse ward leaders, who claimed the FCT lawmaker had been suspended over alleged anti-party activities.

Instead, the judge ordered that Kingibe be put on notice and served with court processes, stressing that both parties must be heard before any decision is made.

“Justice will only be served if both sides are given the opportunity to present their cases on merit,” Lifu said, adding that the court must act “judicially and judiciously,” particularly in political matters.

The plaintiffs, Okezuo Anayo and Isaiah Samuel, had asked the court to restrain Kingibe from “parading herself as a member” of the ADC and from attending meetings or representing the party in any capacity.

They alleged she was suspended on March 10 by ward executives and accused her of misconduct, including holding parallel meetings and disregarding party rules.

But Abubakar Marshall, who said he represents the senator, told the court he had filed a preliminary objection challenging the suit.

The judge adjourned the case until April 20, 2026, for hearing.
