An FCT High Court in Abuja has fixed 10 new hearing dates to conclude the trial of former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele over charges linked to the naira redesign policy.

Justice Maryann Anenih announced the dates on Wednesday after both the EFCC and defence teams agreed on a timetable to complete proceedings.

The hearings will hold on February 3 and 10, April 1 and 2, May 11, 12, 13 and 14, and June 9 and 10. The court said the case, which began in 2024, is expected to end within the scheduled period.

Justice Anenih urged both sides to stick strictly to the timetable, assuring them the court would make arrangements to accommodate the trial.

At the resumed hearing, an EFCC witness, Emere Chinedu, told the court that the Presidency under former President Muhammadu Buhari approved the naira redesign.

He said the approval was conditional, adding that the new notes were meant to be printed locally, not abroad as alleged.

Chinedu also confirmed that Emefiele made six extra judicial statements to the probe panel in late 2023.

The case was adjourned to February 3 for continuation of cross examination.
