Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending his membership and involvement at all levels.
In a letter dated Thursday and addressed to the party’s leadership, Melaye attributed his decision to “deep reflection” on the current state of the PDP, which he said lacked the strength and capacity to rescue Nigeria from its pressing political challenges.
“This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation,” the former lawmaker wrote.
Melaye, who served in the National Assembly from 2015 to 2023, added that he could “no longer in good conscience” align with the PDP’s direction or support its agenda.
He expressed gratitude to the party for the platform it provided during his time in office but insisted that his resignation takes immediate effect.
