The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has called for credible and timely information sharing among anti-corruption and securities agencies to strengthen the fight against economic and financial crimes and national insecurity.
Olukoyede made the call on Thursday, February 26, 2026, during a familiarisation visit by the Acting Customs Area Controller of the Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Wale Adewole, to the EFCC’s Ibadan Zonal Directorate.
The EFCC chairman, represented by the Acting Zonal Director of the Ibadan Directorate, Assistant Commander of the EFCC Hauwa Garba Ringim, said enhanced collaboration between the two agencies had become imperative.
“There is no better time than now to further strengthen the existing synergy between the Nigeria Customs Service and the EFCC to ensure that we effectively deliver on our mandates and promote economic growth,” he said.
Olukoyede stressed that emphasis must be placed on adequate and timely intelligence sharing to combat economic and financial crimes, insecurity, and smuggling, while also boosting government revenue.
He also underscored the need for regular inter-agency training and retraining of personnel to promote professionalism and integrity in the discharge of official duties.
He assured the Customs Area Controller of the commission’s readiness to support productive initiatives that advance national interest.
In his remarks, Adewole said his visit was part of efforts to engage key stakeholders and sister agencies across Oyo and Osun states following his recent appointment.
“As the newly appointed Customs Area Controller, it is mandatory for me to embark on familiarisation visits to relevant stakeholders to ensure seamless collaboration and prevent any sabotage of the financial aspects of our duties,” he said.
He pledged the full support of the Nigeria Customs Service to the EFCC to enhance service delivery and strengthen the fight against financial crimes.
The visit reaffirmed the commitment of both agencies to deepen cooperation in tackling corruption, smuggling, and other economic offences in the region.
