The INEC Resident Electoral Commission (REC) in Ekiti state, Tella Adeniran Rahman says the commission is ready to conduct a “very credible and acceptable” Governorship Election in the State.

Dr. Rahman was addressing stakeholders at a meeting in Ado-Ekiti ahead of the state’s Governorship Elections taking place on 18 June.

“Everything required statutorily has been put in place for the registered voters in the state to vote for the candidate of their choice on Saturday, 18th June 2022,” he said.

He gave the delimitation data of the state as follows, “Number of Polling Units – 2445, number of Registration Areas – 177, number of LGAs – 16, number of Registered Voters - 988,923, number of PVCs distributed - 749,065 (as of 10th June), and number of PVCs uncollected - 239,859 (as of 10 June).”

He said the relevant agencies in charge of security are working together to ensure adequate security at the polls.

“Adequate security has been put in place in collaboration with the security agencies through the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) to secure the voters, election officials, accredited observers, accredited journalists, and election materials.”

The REC noted that non-sensitive materials that will be used for the election have been deployed to all Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) offices in the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

He added that special considerations have been made for pregnant women, the aged, and persons with disability.

“During the election, voters with disability, the aged & pregnant women will be allowed to move to the front of the voters’ queue so that they can vote faster in line with INEC guidelines for the conduct of elections.

“The Commission has made provision for braille ballot guide for such voters such that this assistance may only be needed by those who are not able to use the braille ballot guide,” he announced.
