The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Eid-ul-Adha celebration.

The announcement was made on Monday in Abuja by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

According to the statement, the declaration reflects the government’s recognition of the religious significance of Eid-ul-Adha and its importance to Muslim faithful in Nigeria and across the world.

Tunji-Ojo extended the Federal Government’s felicitations to Muslims in Nigeria and the diaspora, describing Eid-ul-Adha as a festival that embodies sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for others.

He urged Nigerians to use the festive period for prayer and reflection, calling for renewed commitment to peace, unity, and national development.

The minister also encouraged citizens to seek divine guidance for the country as it continues efforts toward strengthening security, promoting prosperity, and fostering national stability.

The statement added that the Federal Government’s message was delivered “in the spirit of brotherhood, shared humanity, and national unity,” while wishing all Muslims a peaceful and joyous celebration.
