The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday adjourned the alleged terrorism trial of former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami (SAN) and his son, Abdulaziz, to March 10, 2026.
The adjournment followed an application by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Rotimi Oyedepo, who requested additional time to review the case.
Oyedepo told the court that the matter had recently been transferred from the Department of State Services to the DPP, and he needed time to familiarise himself with the facts.
Defence counsel Adedayo Adedeji did not oppose the request but warned that the court should strike out the case if the prosecution failed to commence trial on the new date, citing alleged delays and lack of diligent prosecution.
Presiding Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted the adjournment and directed the prosecution to open its case on March 10.
The case has drawn public attention due to Malami’s previous role as Attorney-General and Minister of Justice.
It revolves around allegations of terrorism-related activities, though the specifics of the charges remain under court seal pending further proceedings.
Justice Abdulmalik’s ruling ensures the trial will resume in a week, allowing the prosecution to finalise preparations and the defence to respond to developments.
Malami, a senior advocate of Nigeria, and his son were not in court when the adjournment was announced.
