Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has been declared the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, amid what the party described as unanimous adoption across all 14 local government areas of the state.
The decision was announced by the chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Committee in Zamfara State, Babagana Uba, who said Lawal secured 301,893 votes following a statewide affirmation process.
The party said the exercise covered all 14 local government areas and was observed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alongside party collation officers.
The results were submitted and signed at the state collation level, led by Abubakar Mohammed Nakwada and other APC officials, before being presented to the primary committee for final affirmation.
Local government breakdown figures released by the committee listed vote tallies from across the state, including Anka, Bakura, Birnin Magaji, Bukkuyum, Bungudu, Gummi, Gusau, Kaura Namoda, Maradun, Maru, Shinkafi, Talata Mafara, Tsafe, and Zurmi. However, some of the figures in the official statement appeared inconsistently formatted.
Following the declaration, Governor Lawal expressed appreciation to APC members and supporters across the state, describing the development as a “historic” moment in Zamfara’s political landscape.
He said the broad support reflects a unified political front and pledged to intensify ongoing development efforts if elected, with priorities spanning education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic development.
“These massive displays of support and love will encourage me to do more in our quest to rescue and rebuild Zamfara State,” Lawal said, thanking party officials and the primary committee for what he described as a successful process.
The APC said the consensus adoption marks a consolidation of support ahead of the 2027 elections, positioning Lawal as its standard-bearer in the state.
