Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has announced his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant shift in the state's political landscape.

The announcement was made on Friday and is seen as a strategic move ahead of the 2027 electoral season.

Governor Eno cited alignment with APC's vision for national development and governance as key reasons for his switch.

"After careful consideration and consultation with my supporters and stakeholders, I have decided to join the APC to better serve the people of Akwa Ibom and contribute to our nation’s progress," Eno announced ofiicially.

The move by Governor Eno is expected to have substantial implications for the political dynamics in Akwa Ibom, a state traditionally dominated by the PDP.

Political analysts suggest that Eno’s defection could influence voter sentiments and reshape alliances ahead of the next elections.

The APC has welcomed Governor Eno with open arms, viewing his entry as a boost to their political strength in the South-South region.
