Nigeria's House of Representatives has voted to extend the implementation period for the capital component of the 2024 budget until December 31, 2025.

The bill successfully passed its second reading during a plenary session on Tuesday.

Titled "A Bill for an Act to Amend the 2024 Appropriation Act to Further Extend the Capital Components of the Act From 30th June 2025 to 31st December 2025 and for Related Matters (HB.2404)," the extension bill was presented by Deputy Majority Leader Ibrahim Halims.

The bill received approval through a voice vote and has now been forwarded to the Committee on Supply for further deliberation.

The lower legislative chamber said the decision is to ensure the completion of ongoing projects and to accommodate unfinished aspects of the budget.

House speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, highlighted the importance of the extension, citing the incomplete execution of planned projects as a key reason for the legislative action.

The extension is part of a broader trend, as the House had previously extended the 2023 budget to ensure capital projects were not left hanging.
