Season 9 of Nigeria Info’s ‘I Beg To Differ’ student debate continued on Tuesday with Rahmaniyah Private Schools facing Heritage Group of Schools to argue the motion, ‘School Corporal Punishment Should Be Reintroduced in Lagos.’
Rahmaniyah Private Schools argued in support of the motion, while Heritage Group of Schools opposed it.
The presentation round saw Heritage Group of Schools take an early lead with 30 points against Rahmaniyah’s 27.5.
Heritage Group of Schools maintained its momentum in the rebuttal round, scoring 30 points, while Rahmaniyah earned 23.5.
Rahmaniyah Private School closed strongly with 29.5 points in the final argument, compared with Heritage’s 28.
Both schools earned high diction scores, with Rahmaniyah scoring 10 and Heritage scoring 8.
Heritage Group of schools finished with 96 points overall, bettering Rahmaniyah’s 90.5 to advance to the Round of 16 in the ‘I Beg To Differ’ Secondary School Debate Tournament.
In the second debate, Westview College went up against Lifejoy Academy on the topic, “Plastic Bottles Should Be Banned in Nigeria.”
Westview College argued in favor of the ban, while Lifejoy Academy opposed it.
Lifejoy Academy won with a final score of 94 points to Westview’s 90 and will now face Heritage Group of Schools in the Round of 16.
