The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash O. Amupitan, SAN, has issued a stern warning to Commission officials, declaring that ignorance of procurement law will no longer be tolerated as preparations ramp up for the 2027 general elections.

He said the training enhanced “collective understanding among members of the Commission’s Tender Board, fostering improved coordination and accountability in procurement decisions.”
The INEC Chairman also disclosed that the Commission’s budget has been approved by the National Assembly, providing a solid foundation for effective procurement planning ahead of the elections.
The training convened National Commissioners, Directors, and senior staff, featuring expert sessions on procurement communication, stakeholder management, and legal compliance. Presenters included Dr. Steve Ogidan, CEO of Successory Nigeria Ltd., and Prof. Adetunji O. Ogunyemi of Obafemi Awolowo University, who examined breaches of procurement law and the challenges of legal and judicial interventions.
Commending the facilitators, Prof. Amupitan said the knowledge gained would shape participants’ conduct and decision-making in procurement matters. He also thanked the Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner for logistical support and praised attendees for their active engagement.
The workshop concluded with officials pledging renewed commitment to uphold the provisions of the Procurement Act and strengthen procurement integrity as a critical pillar for delivering credible elections.
