General Christopher Musa (rtd), the newly appointed Minister of Defence and former Chief of Defence Staff, officially assumed duty on Friday at the Ministry of Defence headquarters, Ship House, Abuja.

Musa was appointed on Tuesday by President Bola Tinubu following the resignation of former minister Muhammed Badaru, and was confirmed by the Senate on Thursday after an expedited screening process.

His appointment has been widely welcomed across security and governance circles, with observers saying his track record of firm and innovative leadership as Defence Chief between 2023 and 2025 positions him to strengthen defence operations and deepen ongoing reforms.

The new minister arrived at the ministry at about 11:10 a.m., where he inspected the quarter guard in line with military tradition and exchanged pleasantries with service chiefs and senior officials.

Musa immediately proceeded into a closed-door meeting with the service chiefs and directors of the ministry.
