The Lagos State Government says the Lagos Bus Services Limited (LBSL) now transports more than 42,000 passengers daily through about 1,000 bus trips across the state.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing marking the third year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office.
According to the government, the bus service has moved over 60 million passengers between May 2019 and February 2025.
Osiyemi said the development reflects ongoing efforts to improve affordable and efficient public transportation across Lagos through integrated road, rail and water transport systems.
According to the report presented at the briefing, LBSL currently operates across all five IBILE divisions and 13 local government areas, including Ikorodu, Ojo and Ibeju-Lekki.
The agency also runs more than 40 bus routes along 21 transport corridors using a fleet of 300 buses supported by six depots.
The commissioner noted that fares on the state-owned bus service remain relatively lower than those charged by informal transport operators, making it a key part of the government’s affordable mobility plan.
The Ministry of Transportation also highlighted progress in other transport projects across the state.
It revealed that over 3.5 million passengers have used the Blue Rail Line, while additional coaches have been added to the Red Line to reduce waiting time for commuters.
Officials further disclosed that construction is ongoing on the Blue Line Phase II project from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko, alongside road junction upgrades at Allen Avenue, Opebi Road and Toyin Street.
On waterways, the ministry said about two million passengers now use water transport monthly, supported by ferry expansion projects, safety campaigns and the OMI-EKO electric ferry initiative.
Osiyemi added that the state government plans to launch more transport projects in 2026, including the Green and Purple Rail Lines, the Lekki Water Taxi initiative and expanded smart mobility systems.
