The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has launched a 24-hour state-wide traffic management operation and multi-agency enforcement drive to ensure smooth movement and public safety during the festive season.
The initiative called “Operation Ember Months Stability,” targets major traffic corridors and nightlife zones, aiming to reduce gridlock, discourage road indiscipline, and enhance safety awareness among motorists and commuters.
According to a statement signed by LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, personnel have been deployed to key routes including Ikorodu Road, Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Lekki-Epe Corridor, and Agege Motor Road to guarantee round-the-clock operational coverage.
The operation is complemented by a multi-agency urban regeneration task force led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, which has cleared illegal shanties, derelict vehicles, and makeshift encampments obstructing traffic at Apapa, Ijora, and Costain under-bridges.
He noted that the enforcement revealed a dummy firearm and other dangerous weapons. “Notably, the discovery of a dummy firearm and several dangerous weapons concealed within a makeshift structure during the exercise underscored the urgent necessity of the enforcement action and validated the State Government’s resolve to preserve safety and public order." he said.
Commercial bus operators previously loading illegally have now been relocated to designated parks and terminals.
According to Bakare-Oki, The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has been directed to integrate cleared spaces into the State’s mass transit system.
