The Lagos State Police Command has ordered the immediate withdrawal of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit from traffic enforcement across the state.
The directive was issued by the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, as part of efforts to improve professionalism and accountability in traffic management.
In a statement by Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi, the command said the withdrawal applies only to traffic duties, while other responsibilities of the unit remain unchanged.
The police also clarified that the unit is not the only taskforce operating in Lagos, urging residents to verify the identity of enforcement personnel before making complaints.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order and advised residents to cooperate with legitimate security agencies.
