The Lagos State Government is set to begin a statewide measles rubella vaccination campaign from January 27 to February 5, 2026.
The 10 day exercise targets about 10.5 million children aged nine months to 14 years across the state.
The campaign is part of efforts to cut down vaccine preventable diseases and boost child health outcomes in Lagos.
Coordinator of the Lagos State Immunisation Programme, Dr Akinu Adola, says preparations have been ongoing for months.
He explains that community mapping has been completed and nearly 5,000 trained health workers will be deployed.
According to him, the teams will cover all parts of the state, including riverine and hard to reach communities.
Dr Adola says traditional leaders and other stakeholders have also been engaged to improve public trust and acceptance of the vaccine.
He admits there are still pockets of resistance, but insists sustained community engagement remains key.
“The goal is not just 10 days,” he says.
“We will keep engaging communities, show evidence that vaccines work, and help people make informed choices.”
