The House Minority Caucus has raised alarm over discrepancies in several recently gazetted tax laws, claiming they were altered after passing the National Assembly and being signed by President Bola Tinubu.

The claims emerged after Hon. Abdulsamad Dasuki (PDP, Sokoto) highlighted differences between the versions circulated publicly and those approved by lawmakers.

The Minority Caucus said it will protect the independence of the legislature, warning that any attempt to push “fake laws” would undermine parliamentary authority.

A seven-member fact-finding committee, led by Minority Leader Rt. Hon. Kingsley Chinda and chaired by Hon. Afam Victor Ogene, was set up on January 2, 2026. Members represent Bauchi, Oyo, Abia, Bayelsa, Kano, and Nasarawa.

The House had previously ordered the public release of four tax reform acts—the Nigeria Tax Act, 2025; Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025; National Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025; and Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Act, 2025—to verify their integrity.

Preliminary findings indicate that the gazetted versions, particularly the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025, were altered. At least three different versions of the Act are reportedly in circulation, suggesting procedural anomalies that may have encroached on the legislature’s powers.
